FINDING THE LIGHT

Somebody asked recently why I don’t take any self portraits.

I used to take self portraits when I was younger and I didn’t have access to lovely models to bring my ideas to life. I’m extremely camera shy and often have the tendency to cringe in horror at pictures of myself. My imperfections are magnified in photographs. My ghostly pale skin, my almond wide-set eyes, the crooked bump in my nose and my strangely, slanted lips. I hide behind a lens, with the camera in front of my face i’ll never be caught in a photograph again.

But, putting all that aside, I have always been a strong believer in the beauty of women, all women, all sizes, all imperfections. If I were to have a daughter one day I would want her to look at her picture and love what she sees. Even if she is unfortunate enough to get my crooked, bumpy nose…

And so today I took these pictures, hiding in the shadows but finding a little light.
