The first shoot of the year is always bitter-sweet. It’s a little stressful because it sets the tone for the year ahead… It took me a whole month just to work up the courage to put pen to paper and pull the dream into reality. I’d been wanting to shoot an all plaid themed test for awhile now, and so I started sourcing pretty plaid vintage dresses that needed a lot of TLC and little imagination. I put my sewing skills to the test and made my first ever dress (not just resewing a vintage one!) and I made a few little accessories to match. I really love being involved in every aspect of a shoot, from the planning, creating, sewing, and shooting. My team was so wonderful. I cast beautiful Annie for her natural beauty and quirky look, and I teamed up with Pip again on hair and makeup to create something magic. I had a list of vintage and retro locations, but after discovering the sunflower field art installation in the industrial area of the city I just knew I had to shoot there too. Even if the sunflowers were wilted, they were still so beautiful even in death. I’m hoping to start a side project this year where I will be selling most of the clothing and accessories from my shoots, as well as handmade trinkets and hopefully prints too! So many exciting things to come for 2014 and I really can’t wait.
